Chocolate squares (Sjokolade blokkies)


250g Butter

500g Icing sugar (sifted)

40g Cacoa powder (sifted)

2 Eggs (whisked)

300g Rich tea biscuits or similar (crushed)


  1. Melt the butter in a large pot and remove from the heat

  2. Add sifted icing sugar and cocoa powder and mix well

  3. Add the whisked eggs and stir until well combined

  4. Return the pot to a low to medium heat and stir continually until thick and glossy.

  5. Add the crushed biscuits and mix until well combined

  6. Spoon the mixture into a greased dish of about 30x23cm (12"x9"), compact with an offset spatula or back of a spoon and allow to cool

  7. Once cool cut into squares


Those of you who grew up in the 70's and 80's in South Africa, this one is for you!

It is a comforting, quick and easy recipes, when just a biscuit simply is not enough. But be warned, they are very moreish!

These also make great gifts when packaged in pretty glass jars.
